I'm Just Saying...

Disclaimer: I am SO going to be in trouble for this post someday, maybe sooner rather than later, but I’m feeling dangerous (and a bit snarky) today….

I received an envelope in the mail late last week. I didn’t recognize the return address, but I did recognize the handwriting that penned the following message “It doesn’t have to be this fabric, just this color. Love you guys.” Inside the envelope was a 4-inch by 4-inch swatch of green fabric.

This seemingly innocuous fabric swatch represents the color of clothing that my entire family needs to wear to an upcoming wedding. A wedding where we have not yet been introduced to the bride. A wedding for which we have yet to see an invitation. However, to ME this fabric swatch represents a little more, or actually, maybe a little less.

Isn’t there a certain protocol, implied or otherwise, that is followed before picking out attire for your wedding guests? Like actually meeting them first? Or at the very least picking up a phone to say "I’m looking forward to being a part of the family"? The closest thing we got is a Facebook friend invitation… that WE initiated.... admittedly for the primary purpose of scoping her out. Oh, and a text message from another family member saying the engagement was announced on Facebook.

I understand that it’s THEIR day and they want it to be as perfect as they can imagine it to be, and with each word I type, “the fabric sample incident” is irking me less and less. (Blog therapy is awesome, and FREE!!). Still, I was just taken aback by the boldness of the move. Where are Emily Post and Miss Manners when you need them?

I’m just saying…
